In this one year project, James Tribble’s lab will identify ways to turn down damaging inflammation that can occur in the retina in glaucoma as nerve cells become dysfunctional and break down. To do this, they will use previously identified anti-cancer drugs as tools to explore the genes and signals that control inflammation and identify how these could be targeted with existing drugs.
– From this approach we can learn a lot more about the process of inflammation in glaucoma, how it may be suppressed, and potentially find new drugs which may be of benefit to existing glaucoma patients, says James Tribble.
